While five Oklahoma football players began their next career chapter over the weekend courtesy of the NFL Draft, the Sooners picked up commitments from two defensive players late this week as part of the incoming 2022 recruiting class.

Kip Lewis, a four-star linebacker out of Carthage, Texas, announced his commitment to the Sooners on Friday via social media. Also on Friday, Jayden Rowe, a defensive back from Union High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, announced his commitment to OU.

Union was also the school of outgoing Sooner defensive back Tre Brown, selected Saturday in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks.

Oklahoma’s 2020 class is now at nine members. Seven are offensive players and three on defense, including a pair of linebackers.

The 247Sports Composite Player Rankings rate Lewis as a consensus 4-star and the No. 26 linebacker in the 2022 class. He’s rated as the No, 49 overall player in the state of Texas. Rivals rates Lewis as the No. 21 linebacker in the class.

Lewis reportedly had offers from Texas A&M, Texas and Oklahoma State, among others.,

Rowe possesses the rare combination of size, at 6-foot, 3 inches, with speed, which precisely fits what Grinch has been seeking in the rebuild of the OU secondary. Rowe reportedly ran a 10.45 100-yard dash in early April. Before committing to Oklahoma on Friday, he had offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Iowa State, among others.

The Sooners currently have the No, 4 2022 recruiting class, according to Rivals and the No. 5 class, based on the 247Sports class rankings.

The class includes one five-star (WR Luther Burden) and six four-star prospects; six offensive and three defensive players.
