The 2021 Oklahoma football wide-receiver group was already recognized one of the deepest and most talented in the college game, and the Sooners just added to the riches.

The Sooner men’s basketball program isn’t the only one taking advantage of the transfer portal to bring in additional talent when available. Lincoln Riley’s football Sooners have been busy in the transfer market as well.

The latest roster addition is former Arkansas wide receiver Mike Woods announced on Friday his decision to transfer to Oklahoma. Ironically, his announcement comes right before Oklahoma’s annual spring game, a game he himself played in last weekend at Arkansas and caught a touchdown pass.

The 6-foot, 1-inch, 196-pound wide receiver made 32 catches for 619 yards and five touchdowns last fall for the Razorbacks, second best on the team, and was considered one of the top returning receivers in the SEC in the coming season.

In three seasons at Arkansas, Woods caught 83 passes for 1,248 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Last season was his most productive. He got better as the 2020 season went along, averaging 18.8 yards per catch. Two of his best career performances came late last season in games against Florida and LSU. He had touchdown catches of 42 and 87 yards against Florida and caught four passes for 140 yards against LSU.

The Sooners are already loaded at the wide-receiver position, but as the offensive-minded Riley knows well, you can never have too much talent, and the addition of the experienced Woods gives the Sooners another deep threat, which is something Oklahoma’s opponents next season don’t want to hear.

Woods will have two years of eligibility remaining. This will be his senior season, and he had the option for a fifth year because of the one-time NCAA waiver granting an extra year of eligibility because of the pandemic year.

The addition of Woods brings to six the number of transfers that have joined the six-time defending Big 12 champions for the coming season. OU picked up three transfers from Tennessee alone: offensive lineman Wanya Morris, defensive back Key Lawrence and running back Eric Gray. All are expected to provide immediate contributions in the fall. Also, the Sooners have added quarterback Michah Bowens from Penn State and offensive lineman Robert Congel from Arizona
