Power-hitting Oklahoma softball senior Jocelyn Alo is the Player of the Week in the Big 12 Conference.

The nation leader in home runs hit six in the top-ranked Sooners’ five wins last week. Also collected seven hits in 17 at bats this past week, and six of her seven hits left the yard. She has cleared the fence 19 times in 22 Oklahoma games this season.

With Oklahoma baseball first baseman Tyler Hardman also earning Player of the Week honors this week, the Sooners swept both the men’s and women’s Player of the Week awards in baseball and softball this week.

To go along with her half-dozen home runs last week, Alo also batted .471 and contributed 10 runs batted in, 25 total bases and a . 1.471 slugging percentage. Her .547 season batting average and 95 total bases leads all Division I softball players who have played at least 20 games and her 1.484 slugging percentage ranks second nationally.

Alo led the nation her freshman season, in 2017, with 30 home runs and 170 total bases.

Not surprisingly, the senior outfielder and utility player leads the Sooners in hitting with a .547 batting average through 22 games. She ended last season with a .404 career batting average, which ranked first in program history.

Alo has 73 home runs in her four years at Oklahoma. She ranks second in that category to Lauren Chamberlain’s career-leading 95 round-trippers.

This is the second week in a row Oklahoma softball players have been recognized with Big 12 weekly awards. Last week freshman infielder Tiare Jennings was named Player of the Week and senior pitcher Shannon Saile was Co-Pitcher of the Week. That was the second such award for Jennings, who also was Player of the Week on Feb. 16.
