The Big 12 Conference announced on Tuesday how the postponed Oklahoma basketball games with Texas and Baylor will be handled.

The Sooners scheduled game with Red River rival Texas on Feb. 18 in Norman was postponed because of COVID-19 issues within the Longhorn program. That was the third Big 12 game involving Oklahoma that could not be played on its scheduled date due to COVID concerns.

Oklahoma also missed a game with Oklahoma State that was to be played at OU on Jan. 16, as well as a game against Big 12 leader and No. 2-ranked Baylor on Feb. 10. The Baylor game that was to be played midweek  just ahead of the Sooners’ weekend trip to West Virginia (OU won at West Virginia in a double-overtime thriller).

The game with Texas has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 4 at the Lloyd Noble Center. OU won the first game this season between the Sooners and Longhorns 80-79. That game was played in Austin, but Texas was missing a couple of key players as well as its head coach, Shaka Smart, who were out because of COVID issues.

The Sooners have back-to-back games with Oklahoma State the Saturday and Monday preceding the makeup game with Texas. The Saturday, Feb. 27 game is at OU and is the rescheduled game between the two in-state rivals. The venue switches to OSU on Monday, March 2 for Part II of the 2021 Bedlam basketball series.

What this means is Oklahoma will close out the regular season with three games against its biggest rivals.

Missed OU-Baylor game will not be made up

Seven Baylor games this season have either been postponed or cancelled. The Bears are just coming out of a lengthy pause because of in-program COVID protocols. They have not played a game since Saturday, Feb. 2 at Texas. Since that time, Baylor has missed five games.

One of the games Baylor was not able to play this month was the Feb. 10 date at Oklahoma. The Big 12 announced on Tuesday that the OU-Baylor game will not be made up.

Not having to play Baylor a second time could be of huge benefit to the Sooners in the Big 12 standings and the conference tournament seedings. The Bears still have games scheduled with Kansas, West Virginia, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech before the regular season comes to an end.
