Oklahoma baseball: Sooners 54-game 2021 schedule announced

The 2021 Oklahoma baseball schedule included games against 11 teams that made the 2019 NCAA Baseball Championship.

The Sooners are looking forward to a more complete season in 2021 after a 2020 season that was cancelled  after 18 games because of the nationwide outbreak of COVID-19. OU finished last season with a 14-4 record.

Oklahoma is scheduled to open the 2021 season with a three-game home series against Southern University, out of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, beginning on Feb. 19. The Jaguars were 6-10 a year ago.

The Sooners follow the season-opening series wit a two-week Texas swing, including a couple of tournaments: the Round Rock Classic, featuring Texas A&M, Auburn and Baylor, and the Frisco College Baseball Classic that will include former Big 12 team Missouri, No. 10 Arizona and Dallas Baptist.

Seventeen of the 26 different teams OU will play this season (including the eight other Big 12 teams) registered at least 10 wins in the drastically shortened 2020 season.

Oklahoma will open the Big 12 portion of its schedule at Texas the weekend of March 26-28.

In addition to the eight-weekend, 24-game conference schedule, the Sooners will also play mid-week nonconference contests during the regular season with Oklahoma State (March 30) and Texas Tech (April 20).

The three-game Bedlam Series with Oklahoma State that counts as part of the conference standings, and is always one of the highlights of the Sooners’ Big 12 season, will be played in Stillwater on Friday, April 30, then switches to Norman for weekend games on May 1 and 2.

The Big 12 Baseball Championship will be held May 26-30 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma is ranked 41st in the Collegiate Baseball 2021 Preseason Top 25. In addition two Sooner players have been named to the D1 Baseball preseason All-America team. Sooner closer Jason Ruffcorn, a fifth-year senior, is a first-team selection, and redshirt-freshman Peyton Graham was named to the third team.
