The consensus among the way-too-early 2021 top-25 rankings that are out is for Oklahoma football too be among the top-four teams.

With an early look at the projected top teams for next college football season, it’s reasonable to assume that a way-too-early 2021 All-America team wouldn’t be far behind.

ESPN has, indeed, come out with its version of a way-too-early 2021 All-American team, and Oklahoma fans will be happy to know that the Sooners are represented.

OU sophomore-to-be wide receiver Marvin Mims is one of  two at that position who made the team. He and Chris Olave of Ohio State are the two wide receivers.

Mims is the only Oklahoma player named to the team on either offense, defense or special teams. Given the amount of talent the Sooners have returning next season on both sides of the ball, it is both a little disturbing and surprising that Mims is the only Oklahoma player named to the team.

Mims is joined on ESPN’s way-too-early 2021 preseason All-America team by four other players out of the Big 12. Iowa State placed two players on the team, running back Breece Hall and linebacker Mike Rose. Bijan Robinson of Texas is the other running back along with Hall, Kansas State’s Deuce Vaughan is an all-purpose selection to the team.

For curious minds, Sam Howell of North Carolina is the honoree at quarterback. But I have to tell you, his passing stats this past season were only slightly better than those of OU’s Spencer Rattler, and I personally believe the Rattler is the more talented of the two, has the greater upside  and plays for the better team.

That would have been pretty special, don’t you think, to have four of the six offensive skill positions on the team from the Big 12?
