Nine Oklahoma football players have been named to the 2020 All-Big 12 Team.

Redshirt junior center Creed Humphrey, a 2020 Preseason All-American candidate, is the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year, the second consecutive season he has received that honor.

Humphrey was one of three Sooners named to the All-Big 12 First Team for the 2020 season, as voted by the league coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.

Joining Humphrey on the All-Big 12 first unit are redshirt-sophomore placekicker Gabe Brkic and redshirt-junior fullback/H-back Jeremiah Hall. This is the second season that Hall has been an All-Big 12 honoree. He was All-Big 12 Second Team a year ago.

Six Sooners received second-team honors, four of which are defensive players, which is a positive statement about the improvement Oklahoma has made on the defensive side of the ball under second-year defensive coordinator Alex Grinch.

Named to the second team from Oklahoma are true-freshman wide receiver Marvin Mims, junior redshirt-junior offensive lineman Adrian Ealy, senior defensive back Tre Brown and defensive linemen Ronnie Perkins, Isaiah Thomas and Perrion Winfrey, all juniors.

Ten other Oklahoma players, plus Mims (for kick and punt returns on special teams) receiver honorable mention: linebackers Brian Asamoah, Nick Bonitto and DaShaun White, defensive backs Tre Norwood and Delarrin Turner-Yell, offensive lineman Marquis Hayes, quarterback Spencer Rattler, running back Rhamondre Stevenson, wide receiver Theo Wease and tight end Austin Stogner.

Big 12 regular-season champion Iowa State placed nine players on the first team (five on offense and four on defense) and 11 on the first and second teams, the most of any school. Texas Tech was next with four first-team selections.

Oklahoma’s nine selections on the first and second teams was second most overall.

The biggest surprise to me concerning the 2020 Big 12 football awards announcement is the snub OU’s Rattler received for Offensive Newcomer of the Year. Iowa State junior wide-receiver Xavier Hutchinson received that honor.

Rattler was the 2020 Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year selection, and twice during the season he was the Newcomer of the Week honoree in the Big 12 (Sept. 14 and Nov. 23). In addition, his numbers appear to be more impressive than Hutchinson’s.

The Iowa State receiver ranks third in the Big 12 with 50 catches for 612 yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Rattler leads all Big 12 quarterbacks in passing yardage (2,512), completion percentage (68.5), passing yards per game (279.1) and passing efficiency rating (174.7), and he’s second in touchdown passes with 24.

Now you tell me how Rattler isn’t more deserving than the Iowa State player?

Oklahoma has placed at least three players on the All-Big 12 First Team every season since 2000 and at least one all-conference player every season since 1926. Only one time in 105 seasons playing in a conference have the Sooners not had a player earn first-team, all-conference honors.
