Oklahoma football: Sooners move to No. 12 in Coaches Poll
By Chip Rouse
On the next to last weekend of the regular season, the Oklahoma football team has advanced on spot into the No. 12 position in the weekly Coaches Poll.
The Sooners (7-2, 6-2) remained at No. 13 in the Week 15 Associated Press Top 25 following the 27-14 win over Baylor.
Meanwhile, Iowa State (8-2, 8-1), the team Oklahoma will meet in a season rematch in the Big 12 Championship game on Dec. 19 moved to No. 10 in the AP poll and 11 in the Coaches Poll after routing West Virginia 42-6 in the Cyclones’ regular-season finale. Iowa State defeated OU 37-30 in early October and is the last team to beat the Sooners.
Oklahoma, Iowa State and Texas, back in the top 25 this week at No. 23 in both polls, are the only ranked Big 12 teams. Oklahoma State dropped out this week after losing 29-22 to TCU.
The Sooners still have a game remaining before the conference championship game. They are scheduled to play at West Virginia at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Florida and Cincinnati make up the top seven teams in both weekly polls. The only difference is a switch-around between Clemson and Ohio State in the two polls. Clemson is No. 3 and Ohio State 4 in the AP poll, and they switch positions in the Coaches Poll.
The Big 10 leads all of the major conferences with five teams ranked in the top 25 of the AP poll. The SEC and ACC each have four, but they also both have three teams ranked in the top 10.
The Sooners are No. 11 currently in the College Football Playoff rankings. The new rankings come out Tuesday night.
