The men’s Oklahoma golf team opened its 2020-21 fall schedule in style, capturing the Big 12 Preview championship.

The No. 2-ranked Sooners shot a final round team score of two-under-par 278 to beat second-place Texas by six strokes in the 54-hole tournament held at historic Colonial Country Club in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Oklahoma was paced by junior Logan McAllister and senior Quade Cummins, who finished one-two on the individual leaderboard. McAllister carded a final-round score of four-under 66, tying three others, including teammate Cummins, for the low score in the tournament. He finished with a career-best 54-hole score of three-under-par 207, including 10 birdies.

Cummins put on a furious push on the back nine in the final round to finish in a tie for second, posting an overall score of one-under 209. It was the 25th top-10 finish in his OU career.

Jonathan Brightwell, a collegiate All-American at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte before transferring to Oklahoma, tied for sixth place, giving the Sooners three top-10 finishers. Brightwell finished at one-over-par 211 with rounds of 70-71-70 over the par-70, 7,204-yard Colonial course.

As a team, the Sooners posted 50 birdies over the 54 holes and were the only team to finish under par.

It was the 25th tournament title for the Oklahoma men under head coach Nate Hybl, who is in his 12 year at OU.

With the win in the Big 12 Preview, Oklahoma beat out three other Big 12 schools who rank in the top 10 nationally. Texas, the second-place finisher, is ranked No, 4, No. 3 Baylor finished third at Colonial, and Baylor, which finished fourth, is ranked 10th.

The Sooners return to the Lone Star State this weekend, where they will be the top seed in the Big 12 Match Play Championship at The Golf Club at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas.
