Oklahoma football is ranked No. 6 in the Amway 2020 Preseason Coaches Poll.

The five-time defending Big 12 champions have been ranked eighth or higher in 19 of the last 21 college football Preseason Coaches Polls. Over that same time frame Oklahoma has appeared in four College Football Playoffs.

In the three seasons that Lincoln Riley has been the Oklahoma head coach, the Sooners have ranked 6th, 5th and 4th in the Preseason Coaches Poll.

Clemson was awarded the top spot in this year’s Preseason Coaches Poll, receiving 38 of the 65 first-place votes. Ohio State is second, followed by Alabama, Georgia and LSU. Penn State, Florida, Oregon and Notre Dame round out the top 10.

Three other Big 12 schools joined Oklahoma in the preseason top 25: No. 14 Texas, No. 16 Oklahoma State and No. 25 Iowa State. Baylor, TCU and Kansas State are among 26 other teams that received votes.

The Big Ten led all of the Power Five conferences placing six teams in the top 25 of the Preseason Coaches Poll. The SEC has five teams in the top 25, including four in the top 10. The Big 12 and the ACC have four teams in the top 25. The ACC total includes Notre Dame. The Pac-12 placed three teams in the top 25.

Oklahoma is the favorite for a fifth straight year  in the Big 12 Preseason Media Poll to win the conference. The Sooners also placed five players on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, and redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler is the Preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.

Oklahoma ended the 2019 season ranked No. 4 in the final Amway Coaches Poll.
