Jalen Hurts signs 4-year, $6 million NFL contract with Philadephia

Former Oklahoma football quarterback Jalen Hurts has agreed to a four-year, $6.02 million rookie contract with the NFL Philadelphia Eagles.

According to the website Spotrac.com, Hurts will receive a $1.94 million signing bonus and $2.8 million of his four-year contract is guaranteed.

Hurts was selected by the Eagles in the second round, the 53rd overall pick, in the 2020 NFL Draft held in April, the first live sporting event, although conducted virtually, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hurts became the third Oklahoma quarterback to be drafted within the first two rounds in the past three NFL Drafts. The two Sooner quarterbacks who preceded him at OU, Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray, were both taken No. 1 overall, by the Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals, respectively, in 2018 and 2019.

Another Jalen, will get the big rookie money from the Eagles. Wide receiver Jalen Reagor, Philadelphia’s first-round selection from TCU, will receive $13.3 million over four years. Reagor originally had committed to Oklahoma before ending up at TCU.

Consensus All-American CeeDee Lamb was the first Oklahoma player selected in this year’s NFL Draft  will receive the most money of the four 2020 OU draft picks. The former Sooner wide receiver was picked 17th overall in the first round by the Dallas Cowboys and will receive $14 million over four years with a $7.7 million signing bonus.

Defensive lineman Neville Gallimore was taken 65 spots after Lamb, in the third round, by the same Dallas Cowboys. Gallimore will receive $4.6 million and a $964,000 signing bonus.

Linebacker Kenneth Murray was the first-round pick of the Los Angeles Chargers, the 23rd overall player taken in the 2020 draft. There has been no word on Murray’s salary details.
