I’ve said this before, but I’m sure Sooner fans never tire of hearing it. Oklahoma football is to Big 12 football like the Kansas Jayhawks are to Big 12 basketball.

The Sooners have won 13 conference football championships in the 24 years the Big 12 Conference has been in existence, including the last five in a row and seven of the last 10.

Oklahoma should begin the upcoming 2020 season as the conference favorite again, but there remains a lot of uncertainty about what form the college football season will take, or if the season will even kick off, because of continuing concerns stemming from COVID-19.

There is genuine optimism among the presidents and athletic directors of member Big 12 schools that there will be football in the fall, but what we are dealing with in reality right now is a moving target and the uncertainty of what will happen as the restrictions are lowered and the country begins to open up.

More on that in the coming weeks and months, but for right now, let’s all assume there will be football in the fall and examine why the Sooner Nation should be excited about the 2020 season and the prospects for a sixth straight conference crown.
