Few would argue that the historical record-setting achievement Oklahoma football is best known for is the incredible 47-game winning streak.

That record was set nearly 63 years ago, and no team has come closer than 35 wins in a row since that time. Consecutive wins is not the only team record the Sooners hold in the NCAA football record book, though. Oklahoma’s name appears at the top of the list, either outright or shared, in the NCAA record book in at least 15 offensive categories.

And that doesn’t include the two-times that number of individual records held by Oklahoma Sooners — five alone by All-American Adrian Peterson as a freshman in 2004.

Four of the NCAA team records held by the Sooners were set by the 2008 OU offensive machine led by quarterback Sam Bradford, and two team records are held by the 1971 Oklahoma team that operated out of Barry Switzer’s wishbone offense.

While Oklahoma is credited with the NCAA record 47 consecutive wins, the Sooners actually went 48 games without a defeat. The 47 consecutive wins were preceded by a 7-7 tie with Pittsburgh in the second game of the 1953 season.

Another little know NCAA record held by the Sooners is most points scored all-time. Oklahoma has scored 36,383 points in 1,288 games in 125 seasons of college football.
