Trey Sermon reported to be headed to Ohio State

A little over a week ago, Oklahoma running back Trey Sermon announced that he was entering the transfer portal. We now know where he is headed.

According to reports by ESPN and several other national news sources, Sermon is transferring to Ohio State and will be able to play next season as a graduate transfer. He has one year of eligibility left.

Sermon is moving into a good situation at Ohio State and will have the opportunity to regain a starting role. The Buckeyes are having to replace the loss of J.K. Dobbins, who has declared for the NFL Draft. If Sermon wins the starting role as the lead running back at Ohio State next season, he will have hiuge shoes to fill.

Dobbins ends his sensational Ohio State career as No. 2 on the school’s career rushing list (4,459 yards), and this past season was the first Ohio State player to exceed 2,000 rushing yards in a season

Sermon gained 744 rushing yards his freshman season at Oklahoma and 947 yards, along with 13 touchdowns, as a sophomore. His production dropped off sharply in 2019 with just 385 rushing yards on one-third as many carries as he had the year before.

He started the first four games for the Sooners last season before losing his starting job to redshirt sophomore Kennedy Brooks. Sermon’s 2019 season was cut short by an ACL injury, which forced him to miss the final five games of the season.

Sermon played as a freshman in Oklahoma’s 31-16 win at Ohio State in 2017. He rushed for 62 yards in that game and had 23 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown.
