Oklahoma basketball: Kristian Doolittle named to All-Big 12 First Team
By Chip Rouse
All season long, the Oklahoma basketball Big Three of Kristian Doolittle, Brady Manek and Austin Reaves have been the headliners in the Sooners’ season, and following the conclusion of the regular season over the weekend the trio was recognized with All-Big 12 honors.
Doolittle, who leads the Sooners in scoring this season, averaging 15.8 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, has been named to the All-Big 12 First Team for the 2019-20 season.
The senior from nearby Edmond, Oklahoma, has recorded 10 double-doubles (double digits in scoring and rebounding in the same game) this season and leads the Big 12 with four 20-point double-doubles. Doolittle, the lone OU senior, ranked fourth in the Big 12 in the regular season in both scoring and rebounding.
Joining Doolittle on this season’s All-Big 12 First Team are Udoka Azubuike and Devon Dotson of Kansas, Jared Butler of Baylor and TCU’s Desmond Bane.
Doolittle is the 10th Oklahoma Sooner to receive All-Big 12 First-Team honors since the conference came into existence in 1996. Other OU first-teamers include Corey Brewer (1998), Eduardo Najera (2000), Aaron McGhee (2002), Hollis Price (two times, 2002 and 2003), Taj Gray (2005), Blake Griffin (two times, 2008 and 2009), Romero Osby (2013), Buddy Hield (twice, 2005 and 2016) and Trae Young (2018).
Junior forward Brady Manek was named to the All-Big 12 Third Team. He was an honorable-mention selection a year ago.
Austin Reaves, who transferred to OU from Wichita State, was named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team and also received All-Big 12 honorable mention. Reaves scored a career-high 41 points this past weekend in the Sooners’ remarkable comeback win over TCU.
The trio of Doolittle, Manek and Reaves averaged at least 14 points a game. The Sooners are the only team in the Big 12 with as many as three players scoring 14 or more points a game and one of only three teams from major conferences that can make that claim (Arkansas and Alabama are the other two).
