It’s been quite a while since an Oklahoma softball team lost back-to-back regular-season games.

The No. 3 Sooners lost 12-2 to the No. 2-ranked Washington Huskies in the second half of a doubleheader on Saturday and fell 4-3 to Wisconsin on Sunday in their final game in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, California.

Oklahoma fell behind 7-0 to Washington after four innings. The Sooners scored their only runs in the fifth inning on a pair of singles by Taylon Snow and Kinzie Hansen. The Huskies added a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh to close out the scoring.

The Sooners fell behind again on Sunday as Wisconsin scored four times in the top of second. OU responded, scoring three times in the third, and that was all the scoring in the game. Hansen collected two of Oklahoma’s six hits, marking the seventh game this season in which the Sooner freshman has produced multiple hits in a game.

Shannon Saile, who was the winning pitcher in OU’s 2-1 win over Seattle University in the opening game of Saturday’s twin bill, took the loss against Wisconsin, working four innings and giving up three earned runs on three hits. She struck out seven hitters but walked eight.

OU won its first two games of the weekend tournament, defeating Nebraska 10-2 as Saile and Brooke Vestal combined on a three-hit pitching performance in the first game of a Friday doubleheader. The Sooners made it a doubleheader sweep with a 2-1 win over Texas A&M in the nightcap. Grace Green and Grace Lyons drove in OU’s two runs in the game. Lyons ended the weekend with five hits and four RBI, including her third home run of the season.

The last time Oklahoma lost two games in a row in a season was in 2017, losing back-to-back 3-1 nonconference outings against Cal Poly.

The Sooners are home at Marita Hynes Field for the first time this season next weekend, hosting Northwestern, Abilene Christian and North Texas in the Courtyard Marriott Tournament.
