Oklahoma basketball senior Kristian Doolittle was the one bright light for the Sooners in their loss at Kansas over the weekend, and on Monday he was named Big 12 Player of the Week.

In two games last week — a 29-point win over Iowa State and a 17-point loss at No. 3 Kansas — Doolittle averaged 23.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 three-pointers. That led the Big 12 in scoring for the week.

Against Kansas on Saturday, Doolittle scored a game-high 27 points, including five of eight three-balls. He also scored 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds the previous Saturday in Oklahoma’s home win over then-No. 13 West Virginia. No other Big 12 has scored 27 and pulled down as many as a dozen rebounds in the same game this season.

Former Sooner Blake Griffin is the only other Oklahoma player to produce 27 points and 12 rebounds in a Big 12 game.

Doolittle’s 27 points on Saturday is the most by a visiting player at Allen Field House this season. He has had seven games this season with 20 or more points, with a season-high of 28 against North Texas in December.

This is the third time this season that Doolittle has earned Player of the Week honors in the Big 12. That ties him with Devon Dotson of Kansas for the most by any one player in the conference this season.

Both of the weekly Big 12 honors this week went to players in the Sooner State, with freshman Kalib Boone of Oklahoma State being named Newcomer of the Week. Boone average 11.0 points and made 14 of 18 free throws in back-to-back conference wins by OSU at Kansas State and at home over Texas Tech on Saturday.
