Oklahoma basketball: Noteworthy numbers, notes from Sooner downer

The Big Three of Oklahoma basketball scored in double figures and the Sooners shot 47 percent from the field, but that wasn’t enough as Iowa State rolled to an 81-68 win at home on Saturday night.

Iowa State (8-7, 1-2) snapped a three-game losing streak and ended Oklahoma’s four-game win streak. It also marked the Sooners’ eighth straight loss at Iowa State. They haven’t won there since 2011.

Oklahoma lead in the game early, but the Cyclones went on a 12-0 run to finish the first half and take a 42-25 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Iowa State ran off nine unanswered points in the opening minutes of the second half and widened  the lead to 26 points, 55-29 before three minutes were gone.

The Sooners kept fighting from there, but the deficit was too deep to overcome.

Brady Manek led the scoring for Oklahoma with 17 points on six of seven shooting, including five of six from behind the three-point arc. Kristian Doolittle, the Sooners’ leading scorer and No. 2 in the Big 12 coming into the game, contributed 14.

Rasir Bolton had a game-high 23 points and six assists to lead the Cyclones.

To add insult to injury, Oklahoma returns home after a two-game road swing to host what is certain to be an angry Kansas Jayhawk team that lost at home to Baylor on Saturday.

Here are some notable numbers that tell the story of this game:

15 — Iowa State scored 15 points off of fast breaks; OU had 0 points off of fast breaks.

15 — Oklahoma committed an uncharacteristic 15 turnovers that led to 32 Iowa State points.

28-13 — The Iowa State bench outscored the Sooner reserves 28-13.

35 — Iowa State outrebounded the Sooners 35-25, including grabbing 12 offensive rebounds to OU’s three.

36 — Iowa State scored 36 of its points in the paint to 26 for Oklahoma.

47.8 — Oklahoma shot 47.7 percent for the game (21 of 44), but Iowa State shot even better, hitting 32 of 67 field-goal attempts for 47.8 percent.
