The Arizona Cardinals are quickly finding out something Oklahoma football fans have known for quite a while. – Kyler Murray is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of athlete.

The former Oklahoma football star and Heisman Trophy winner looked good on the first day of practice, making some big-time throws and showing off his world-class speed in scrimmages.

Murray found veteran receiver Larry Fitzgerald on a pass play that went viral on Twitter.

Fitzgerald is a perfect mentor for Murray. In his 16th season the 11-time Pro Bowler has done nearly everything there is to be done in the NFL from postseason success to individual honors. He’ll certainly be a security blanket for Murray as he makes the adjustment to the next level.

As for Murray, it is still far too early to tell exactly what’s in store for him this season, but early on he’s flashing some of the playmaking ability that made him the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s draft.

He does have a slight leg up on some other rookie quarterbacks in that he gets to learn under a familiar Air Raid system with former Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury, who came through the ranks in the same coaching tree as Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley.

Oklahoma football fans will have yet another high-profile quarterback to root for going into 2019 after Baker Mayfield was named rookie of the year last season by several different press organizations including the PFF, PFT and PFWA.

They will be in for a special treat on Dec. 15 when the Cardinals and Browns square off, potentially pitting two No. 1 overall picks and Heisman winners from the same school against each other in head-to-head competition.
