Oklahoma baseball: Sooners get by K-State for 2nd straight series win

After losing three consecutive Big 12 series, Oklahoma baseball has now won back-to-back weekend series, taking two of three over the weekend at Kansas State.
The Sooners improved their overall record to 30-15 and climbed above .500 again in the conference (8-7), going 3-1 last week, capped by a 6-3 win in extra innings to win the rubber game in the series over Kansas State (21-24, 6-9). With the win, Oklahoma becomes to second team in the Big 12 to reach 30 wins this season. (Baylor is the other with a record of 30-12.)
Held scoreless and with just three hits through seven innings, Oklahoma came up with three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 3-2 lead on Sunday, but Kansas State tied it up with a run in the bottom half of the inning and send the game to extra frames.
In the 10th, freshman left fielder Diego Muniz blasted a two-run home run to give OU the lead. The Sooners added a third insurance run in the inning, and closer Jason Ruffcorn shut down K-State in the home half of the 10th to pick up the win and the series victory for OU.
Muniz’s game-winning home run on Sunday was his third of the season. He had four hits and four RBI in the K-State series and scored a couple of runs.
Sunday’s game ended a season-long 11-game road trip for the Sooners.
The Sooner offense produced two four-run innings in Friday’s series opener and junior right-hander Nathan Wiles started and pitched into the eighth inning, before handing it off to reliever Ledgend Smith, to win his seventh game of the season. Five OU hitters recorded two hits apiece as the Sooners totaled a game-hit 13 hits off of five Kansas State pitchers
K-State starter Caleb Littlejim allowed one run on just two hits over 6 1/3 innings and Wildcat third baseman Cameron Thompson went four for four at the plate, including a home run, to lead the home team to a 5-2 victory in the middle game of the series on Saturday. Sophomore left-hander Levi Prater started for Oklahoma, also going 6 1/3 innings, and took the loss.
Offensive stars for the Sooners last week included sophomore outfielder Tanner Tredaway and junior outfielder Brady Harlan. Tredaway batted .538, going 7 for 13 with three doubles, five runs batted in and four runs scored. Meanwhile, Harlan hit .400 for the week ( 4 for 10) with two doubles, four walks, three RBI and four runs scored.
Oklahoma returns home this weekend to host second-place Texas Tech (29-13, 11-7) in the Sooners’ final home series of the regular season.
