The human element

Spring injuries are always tough. No matter what players goes down, it’s hard on the team’s overall psyche to lose guys when you are practicing against yourselves. While Jordan Kelly’s injury is a tough pill for the young man to swallow, you can’t help but feel worse for Caleb Kelly.

A five-star recruit coming out of high school, Caleb Kelly has flashed his immense upside time after time, but never quite been able to put it all together and become that NFL-caliber linebacker his talent warrants him to be.

Kelly has been through multiple position changes and lost his starting job to an emerging Curtis Bolton last year. He had the opportunity to redshirt, which would have benefited him with another year as a full time starter to show off his talents, but chose to return to the lineup when he was needed later in the season.

By all accounts Caleb Kelly is an unselfish leader who has done everything right both on and off the field since arriving in Norman and most people were rooting for all of that hard work to pay off with a monster senior season for the Fresno, Calif. product. While that’s still a possibility, this injury certainly doesn’t do him any favors.

Still those close to the situation in the OU program are all rooting for Kelly to make a full recovery and get a chance to finally blossom into the dominant player he can be.
