The addition of the early signing period has taken a lot of the drama out of what used to be one of the biggest days of the year for college football recruiting, but there’s always a chance for some pleasant surprises from Oklahoma football and head coach Lincoln Riley.

The Sooners’ 2019 class is mostly in the books at this point with only one official signee as of Wednesday morning in Katy, Texas defensive end David Ugwoegbu.

The addition of Ugwoegbu is nothing to scoff at, of course. The four-star (according to Rivals) prospect chose Oklahoma football over the likes of Alabama, Texas, Auburn, Florida, Michigan and others and adds even more gravitas to a solid haul up front in 2019 for the Sooners.

Still, there are some Sooner fans craving the kind of signing day drama we’ve seen in the past. Last year it was Michael Thompson spurning his home state of Missouri to pick Oklahoma football. A few years back the Sooners landed Caleb Kelly in a signing day ceremony and future NFL star Joe Mixon chose the Sooners on the first Wednesday in February.

So are there any of those kinds of surprises coming today?

Maybe.

Lincoln Riley tweeted out a pair of eyes yesterday evening, which on the eve of signing day could very well indicate a late addition to what is currently the No. 5 class in the country (according to Rivals).

So who could it be? There are a couple of 2019 targets still left on the board that the Sooners can get excited about.

Danielson Ike

Kansas City, Mo., guard Danielson Ike seems to be a possibility. The three-star offensive tackle was a late bloomer who drew attention from bluebloods like Alabama, Michigan and Oklahoma down the stretch of recruiting season.

With the track record Oklahoma football has shown in recent years with putting offensive linemen into the NFL (there may very well be four Sooner linemen drafted this year), Danielson is certainly entertaining becoming a late member of the 2019 Sooners class.

Enokk Vimahi

Four-star offensive guard Enokk Vimahi changed pushed back his commitment date after what appeared to be a solid visit to Norman in January.

The Sooners are in heavy competition for Vimahi’s services with Notre Dame, USC and Ohio State all pushing hard to add the talented offensive lineman.

Vimahi’s announcement will come at 7:30 a.m. Hawaii time, which is 11:30 a.m. Central.

Brandon Peirce

The Sooners have one other intriguing offer on the table, College of the Canyons JUCO wide receiver Brandon Peirce.

If the name of the school sounds familiar, it should. That’s where Oklahoma football went to land Marquise Brown a few years back and Peirce has more in common with Brown than just the same junior college.

Nicknamed “Flash”, Peirce might be the fastest player in the junior college ranks right now. He has legit 4.3 speed and it shows on film. Yes, the Sooners are already going to be crowded at receiver with Theo Wease, Jadon Haselwood and Trejan Bridges already on campus, but Riley is two-for-two on taking speedy receivers from the junior college ranks (Dede Westbrook and Brown) and could make it a hat trick with Peirce.

Anyone else?

These three names seem to be the most likely candidates for a signing day surprise, but there’s always the possibility of an addition from left field.

Remember  Ty DeArman’s shocking announcement on early signing day? Lincoln Riley seemingly stole longtime Arizona State commit from the great Herm Edwards at the 11th hour.
