Oklahoma football: Ranking the Sooners’ top 10 players entering 2018 season
By Chip Rouse
No. 6 — Sophomore running back Trey Sermon
Another one of the Sooner freshman surprises last season — although many would argue that it was more of an expectation than a surprise — was the performance of running back Trey Sermon.
Sermon ranked second on the team (to Rodney Anderson) with 744 rushing yards on 121 carries, an average of 6.1 yards per attempt. He tied for second on the team with five rushing touchdowns.
He ran for at least 80 yards in four games, including a career-high 148-yard performance and two rushing TD, in an Oklahoma win over Baylor. Sermon’s performance at Baylor earned him Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors.
In OU’s upset win at Ohio State early in the 2017 season, Sermon ran for 62 yards and caught three passes for 23 yards, including his first career touchdown in college.
