Oklahoma football: Sooners’ 2019 recruiting class continues to bloom
By Chip Rouse
If you haven’t checked recently, the 2018 Oklahoma football recruiting class continues to get better.
And that’s great news for the Sooners’ football future and a solid tribute to second-year head coach Lincoln Riley’s ability to attract top talent to one of the college game’s most revered national brands.
The Sooners have added two new verbal commitments in the past week to the 2019 class, with both Rivals.com and ESPN rank currently as the nation’s No. 3 class. Also in the past week, Oklahoma earned a commitment from a four-star defensive back as the fourth member of its 2020 recruiting class.
July 4th week brought a pair of four-star defensive backs to the Sooner fold, one as part of the 2019 class and another for 2020. First it was Darion Green-Warren from Santa Ana, California. Green-Warren has another season of high school football before he makes the jump to college, but Rivals has him rated as No. 80 overall and No. 9 at defensive back.

In addition to the Sooners, Arizona, Boise State, Florida and Louisville also had high interest in Green-Warren.
On Friday, more good news came Oklahoma’s way, when another highly touted defensive back committed to the Sooners for 2019. Woodi Washington, out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, became the 15th Oklahoma commitment to the 2019 recruiting class and the ninth 4-star recruit to join the class.
Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, all from the SEC, were also recruiting the Tennessee defensive back.
Washington has the second-highest rating so far in OU’s 2019 class (WR Theo Wease, a five-star prospect, is the highest). Rivals ranks Washington No. 33 nationally and the No. 6 cornerback available.
The other 2019 commitment the Sooners’ received last week is from three-star running back Marcus Major from nearby Oklahoma City. Rivals rates Major as the fourth best player in the
Sooner state.
It’s still very early in the process, but Lincoln Riley and the Sooners are well on their way to a third consecutive top-10 recruiting class for 2019.
