With Oklahoma football leading the way, OU finished seventh among NCAA Division I public schools in the 2017 fiscal year.
According to a report published recently by USA Today, the University of Oklahoma brought in total revenue of $155.2 million. That is double the revenue reported a decade ago.
In 2008, OU reported total revenue of 77.1 million. That represents an increase of $78.1 million during the past 10 years.
The report, produced in partnership with Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, showed the two big public universities in Texas — Texas and Texas A&M leading the way in total revenue generated in fiscal 2017. The University of Texas reported $214.8 million for the fiscal period, with Texas A&M close behind at $212 million.
A&M was a member of the Big 12 Conference from 1996-2011, but is now a member of the Southeastern Conference.
Texas’ 2017 revenue is almost $60 million more than that reported by Oklahoma.
The OU Daily, the university’s student newspaper, Oklahoma’s $155.2 million in revenue for the period is made up of $42. 1 million in ticket sales, $45.5 million in contributions, $54.8 million in rights and licensing and $12.8 in other revenue.
The USA Today report listed OU’s total expenses for the 2017 fiscal year at $132.9 million. That consists of $45.5 million in coaching staff salaries, 14 million in scholarships, $23.4 million in facilities and overhead costs and $50 million in other expenses.
Factoring total revenue and expenses for the fiscal period, Oklahoma produced a profit of $22.3 million. That ranks fourth among Division I schools that produced revenue of $100 million or more.
