Winning is something that Oklahoma football does as well as any team in the history of the college game.

The Sooners rank eighth on the list of the winningest college programs all-time among Football Bowl Subdivision teams. OU’s 884 all-time victories is just one behind Notre Dame and seven back of Alabama. Michigan leads all teams with 943 wins, according to NCAA records.

Since the end of World War II, however, no team has more wins than Oklahoma’s 640.

Since 2000, Bob Stoops’ second season as head coach of the Sooners, OU has produced 14 seasons of double-digit wins and have not won fewer than eight games in a season.

Lincoln Riley won a dozen games last season, his first season as Oklahoma head coach. The Sooners have more 10-win seasons (38) than any team in college football, and chances are very good that they will add to that total again in the coming season.

Here are some other numbers for Sooner fans to know ahead of the 2018 college season:

-2.1 – The Sooners’ defensive inefficiency rating, meaning OU allowed opponents, at worst, two fresh sets of downs before having to punt the ball away. As a result, Oklahoma’s average starting field position on offense was its own 28-yard line.*

7 – Home games for Oklahoma in 2018 (Florida Atlantic, UCLA, Army, Baylor, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Kansas).

8.3 – Average yards per play on offense by the Sooners last season, the best in the nation.*

12 – Returning starters for the 2018 season (6 on offense, 5 on defense and 1 on special teams).

67 – Oklahoma ranked 67th in the nation in total defense last season, allowing an average of close to 400 yards per game. The Sooners were 87th in passing yards allowed per game (238.4). These are two areas that drastically need improvement if the Sooners are to remain a top-ranked team.

72 – Days until the Oklahoma 2018 season opener against Florida Atlantic University.
