All season long, the primary goal of the Oklahoma softball team has been to get back to the Women’s College World Series.

Now that they are there, advancing to college softball’s biggest stage for the seventh time in the last eight season, the Sooners are focused on just one thing: winning it all, for a third straight season.

Since 2011, Oklahoma has been one of the eight teams participating in the WCWS every season except 2015. No team in the nation has made more appearances in the WCWS during that time than the Sooners.

Head coach Patty Gasso is in her 24th season at Oklahoma, and he has guided the Sooners to the postseason in every one of those seasons. The Sooners have been to the WCWS a total of 12 times in school history, and all 12 are under Gasso’s watch. They have come away the World Series champions on four previous occasions.

The seniors on the OU softball team are making their third and final appearance in the WCWS, and have come out the winners the last two times they were there. Only four schools in the history of the Women’s College World Series have won the championship in two consecutive seasons. If OU can make it a three-peat this season, it would be only the second school to accomplish that feat (UCLA is the other).

Oklahoma, winners of seven consecutive Big 12 regular-season championships, have become one of the premier teams in college softball over the past two decades, and they are absolutely loaded with talent, and a 55-3 overall record, again this season.

Here are five more reasons to like Oklahoma’s chances for a WCWS three-peat:
