The Oklahoma football performance on Saturday was one of the more impressive offensive displays in an already record-setting season.

No Baker Mayfield to start the game against West Virginia. No problem.

Mayfield’s backup, redshirt sophomore Kyler Murray, started in place of Mayfield, who sat out the opening series as punishment for his inappropriate crowd gestures in the game the week before. On the first snap of the game, Murray faked a handoff to Rodney Anderson and darted through the right side of the West Virginia defensive line, galloping for 66 yards before he was forced out of bounds at the Mountaineer four-yard line.

On the very next play, Anderson took it into the end zone to put the Sooners up 7-0 less than a minute into the game. That was it. One series, two plays and Murray’s debut as the OU starting quarterback was over. Mayfield would take the field to a standing ovation on the Sooners’ next possession.

That was not it for the day for Murray, however. He replaced Mayfield late in the third quarter and play the remainder of the game. He finished the game with two pass completions for 52 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Myles Tease, and 80 yards rushing.

In less than three full quarters, Mayfield’s numbers for the day were 14 for 17 passing for 281 yards and three touchdowns. It marked his 25th consecutive game throwing two or more touchdown passes and the 38th consecutive game in which he has thrown a touchdown pass, a Big 12 record.

Oklahoma scored on each of its first nine possessions in the game and punted just one time in the game. The Sooners are now 6-0 against West Virginia in Big 12 play and 8-2 all-time versus the Mountaineers.

Here are a dozen more notable numbers from OU win number 11 on the season:

4 -Redshirt sophomore running back Rodney Anderson scored four touchdowns in the first half on Saturday. He is only the second player in OU program history to accomplish that feat (DeMarco Murray is the other.
