Wide Receiver Nick Basquine Earned His Stripes Last Season

Former walk-on Nick Basquine played in all 13 games for the Sooners a year ago as a redshirt sophomore, and his increasing production as the season wore on earned him a starting assignment in Oklahoma’s Sugar Bowl win over Auburn.

You will hear his name even more frequently in the 2017 season. The Norman native was awarded a scholarship just ahead of the Baylor game last season.

Basquine was on the receiving end of 20 completed passes last season for 265 yards and two touchdowns. He was OU’s fifth leading receiver in 2016, and is expected to build on that in the coming season.

In the Sooners’ thrilling 66-59 shootout win over Texas Tech last season, Basquine had four catches for 77 yards, one of which resulted in a 23-yard touchdown.

The Norman native, served on the Oklahoma scout team his redshirt season in 2014. The Sooner coaches knew then that Basquine had the potential and the determination to make a name for himself on the active roster. His scout-team performance was rewarded by being named Scout Team Offensive Player of the Year.

In the spring game earlier this month, Basquine caught one pass for 12 yards.
