OU Football and Bedlam: Numbers to Know in Advance

Perhaps the best number to describe the OU football game with Oklahoma State on Saturday is “1,” which is the place in the final conference standings that will be awarded to the winner along with the Big 12 championship.

If Oklahoma wins the 111th edition of Bedlam football, the Sooners will win the conference crown – their 10th, all under Bob Stoops – outright with a perfect 9-0 run through league opponents in 2016.

A loss by the Sooners on Saturday would be their first in conference play and they would share the top of the league standings with their in-state rival, both with identical 8-1 records in conference play. If that were to happen, however, Oklahoma State would be awarded the league title by virtue of winning head-to-head against the Sooners.

Here are a dozen notable numbers to know in advance of Saturday’s championship showdown:

3 – The road team has won the last three Bedlam football games. Oklahoma has been on the winning end of two of them.

4 – This will be the fourth time Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have played with both teams ranked in the top 11 of the Associated Press Top 25. The Sooners are 2-1 in those games. Oklahoma is 13-1 all-time when both teams are ranked in the AP poll.

9 – The Sooners have won nine Big 12 championships – going for No. 10 on Saturday. That is the same number of games they have lost at home in 18 seasons under head coach Bob Stoops.

12 – A victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday would give the Sooners a perfect 9-0 record this season in Big 12 play, the first time a team has gone undefeated in the Big 12 in a dozen years. It also would represent the most conference wins by Oklahoma in the regular season.

15 – Receiving touchdowns by OU’s Dede Westbrook this season. His next one will make the senior from Cameron, Texas, the Oklahoma all-time, single season leader in that category.

16 – On Saturday, Oklahoma is shooting for its 16th consecutive win against Big 12 opponents. The Big 12 record is 20 by Texas between 2004 and 2006.

30 – Points scored by the Sooners in the second quarter of last year’s game on their way to a 44-14 advantage at the break.

71.4 – Baker Mayfield’s completion percentage this season, second best in the country. His passing efficiency rating of 194.7 would represent an NCAA record if the season were to end today.

52.1 – The Sooners’ third-down conversion rate, fourth best in the country.

130 – Oklahoma has held seven of their 11 opponents this season to 130 or fewer yards rushing.

335 – Oklahoma State’s 335 passing yards per game ranks sixth in the nation.. The Sooners’ allow 287.5 passing yards per contest, which ranks 122nd in the country.

402.4 – Despite yielding 854 yards of offense against Texas Tech, the Sooners have given up 402.4 yards to their other seven Big 12 opponents, third best in the conference.
