Joe Mixon Is a Star

When Samaje Perine went down with an injury, Joe Mixon got the opportunity to prove what he can do as the featured back in the Sooner offense. And while Mixon delivered a pretty solid game against Kansas State after Perine left the game with a muscle pull, he saved his best for Lubbock and delivered a performance that will be remembered for years to come.

The statistics are just dazzling: 263 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns plus 114 receiving yards and three scores. Mixon is now alone atop the mountain, the only Sooner player to reach 200 rushing and 100 receiving yards. The Texas Tech defense simply had no answer for Mixon, who seemingly scored at will every time he touched the ball.

Right now, there is no doubt that Mixon is living up to the five-star billing he had coming out of high school. He is already a star and will only get better as the season progresses.

As Perine gets ready to return in a week or so, it will be up to offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley to figure out how best to use the combined talents of his two stellar running backs. No matter what happens, Big 12 defensive coordinators will have a tall task defending when these two guys take the field.
