The 66-59 Oklahoma football final read like a basketball score. In fact, the combined 125 points comes close to the 128 total points scored in one of the 2015 basketball games between Texas Tech and Oklahoma.

If there was ever a game that, for better or worse, captured the essence of Big 12 football, this may have been it.

Even though the Sooners were the last team standing after the shootout in Lubbock, the victory rings hollow. The firepower unleashed by the Oklahoma offense did little to quell the uneasiness of Sooner fans unaccustomed to seeing such a glaring lack of defensive prowess from a Bob Stoops-coached team.

The good new is that Oklahoma came away with the victory over the Red Raiders, the Sooners’ fourth straight win in conference play, but the way it came about was not much cause for celebration.
