Friday and Sunday have been good luck for Oklahoma baseball in the month of April.

The Sooners have won their past two Big 12 weekend series, both at home, with wins on both Friday and Sunday, winning both series with walk-off Sunday wins. In the month of April so far, Oklahoma is 5-2.

Three consecutive singles with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning on Sunday brought home third-baseman Cade Harris from second with the winning run and produced a 7-6 victory over the Baylor Bears in the rubber game of their weekend series.

It marked the second consecutive weekend series won by the Sooners in walk-off fashion. A week ago, in the final game of the Texas series, center-fielder Ben Hollas singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-3 victory.

Junior shortstop Sheldon Neuse, OU’s leading hitter on the season, was credited with both Sunday wins in relief and also was the winning pitcher in a 4-3 Sooner win over Baylor in the series opener on Friday.

The Bears (16-16, 4-5) won the middle game of the series on Saturday, pounding out 13 hits in a 6-1 victory.

The 2-1 series win over Baylor improved Oklahoma’s season record to 17-15-1 and 4-5 in Big 12 play and left the Sooners in a three-way tie with Baylor and Oklahoma State for fifth place in the conference standings.

Oklahoma plays away from home all this week, with a game at Wichita State on Tuesday and a weekend series at No. 9 TCU.

Here’s what you need to know from the Sooners’ weekend series with Baylor:

  • Senior left-fielder Hunter Haley hit three home runs, driving in six runs, in the Sooners two weekend wins over Baylor. Haley hit .429 for the week, which also included a 12-2 mid-week win over Dallas Baptist, OU’s first in the last eight tries against that team, with a slugging average of 1.071.
  • Haley’s performance last week earned him Collegiate Baseball’s National Player of the Week award.
  • Haley has hit .447 (17 for 38) in his career against Baylor.
  • Shortstop Sheldon Neuse was 4 for 14 in the weekend series and extended his on-base streak to 16 consecutive games.
  • The Sooners recorded a pair of season firsts in their Sunday walk-off win over Baylor. They hit a season-high four home runs in the game (Cade Harris, Austin O’Brien two by Hunter Haley) and also delivered four double plays defensively.
  • Baylor hit three home runs on Sunday, making a total of seven for both teams in the game.
  • OU started three freshmen on Sunday. The Sooners have used three or more freshmen in 22 of their 33 games this season.
  • The Sooners scored just one run in Saturday’s 6-1 loss to the Bears. It was the seventh time this season that OU has scored two or fewer runs in a game, all ending in a loss.
