Oklahoma Sooners football: Prized 2015 QB Kyler Murray has rumored interest in OU

facebooktwitterreddit

The starting quarterback job at OU is more wide open right now than any Oklahoma receiver was in 2014. Which isn’t really hard to do.

Bitterness aside, the Oklahoma Sooners are at the center of a huge New Year’s Eve rumor regarding Texas A&M commit Kyler Murray, who is rated the top quarterback in the 2015 class by ESPN.

  • Kyler Murray, a product of Texas high school powerhouse Allen High School, is a dual threat with his arm and his feet.

Murray has a knack for finding the open lanes and taking them when he can’t find any open receivers. However, he’s an intelligent quarterback who has shown a great ability to read defenses and make plays on top of his elite speed.

Standing at 5-foot-11, Murray plays big and he’s received plenty of offers from a great deal of major programs in the Big 12 and SEC.

Kyler Murray has been committed to the Texas A&M Aggies since May 28, 2014. However, Rivals’ Mike Farrell reports Murray would confirm nor deny the rumor on his apparent interest in flipping to the Sooners.

With Trevor Knight’s huge decline since he helped OU defeat Alabama in the 2014 Sugar Bowl and no real guarantee of Baker Mayfield panning out, Kyler Murray has a real shot at winning the job and making an impact early, something he might not be able to do with the Aggies.

Murray took an official visit to Oklahoma’s mid-October match-up against the Kansas State Wildcats. Kyler Murray is apparently friends with OU baseball commit Steele Walker of Prosper, Texas.

Worth mentioning, Murray already knows current Sooner LB Tay Evans and 2015 Oklahoma OT commit Bobby Evans, who were teammates with Murray at Allen High School.

Grabbing a guy like Kyler Murray would be a huge boost, and it may help the Sooners land a few more big names as recruiting heats up.
