When talk this time of year turns to top-10 recruiting and Oklahoma, the assumption is you mean football, but it is Oklahoma basketball that is making news in that area this week.

This past week, the Sooners landed commitments from a pair of forwards from the state of Texas for the 2019 recruiting class. Both are rated as four stars by Rivals.com.

On Wednesday, 6-foot, 7-inch power forward Victor Iwuakor committed to coach Lon Kruger and the Sooners, and he was followed by 6-foot, 6-inch small forward Jalen Hill, who on Thursday gave his verbal commitment to play college basketball at Oklahoma.

Iwuakor and Hill join another four-star recruit, 6-foot, 1-inch guard De’Vion Harmon, as members of the Sooners’ 2019 class, which currently ranks sixth nationally, according to Rivals.com. Harmon verbally committed to OU last November.

Oklahoma hasn’t rated this high on the national recruiting scale since the Sooners’ 2017 class, which included Trae Young, was ranked 28th by Rivals. The OU 2018 basketball recruiting class ranked 85th among NCAA Division I teams.

Rivals rates Harmon as No. 33 nationally and No. 7 at the point guard position.  He had offers from a number of schools, including Texas, Oklahoma State, Baylor and Wichita State.

Iwuakor, ranked 116th nationally and as the 27th best power forward available, drew interest from such programs as Arkansas, Florida, LSU, Louisville and Texas A&M.

Hill, from Las Vegas, where Kruger coached for seven seasons (2004-11 at UNLV), ranks 130th nationally and 27th at small forward. He had offers from Arizona, Florida State, Missouri, UNLV and Wisconsin, among others.

Oklahoma finished in a four-way tie for sixth place in the Big 12 standings last season with an 8-12 record and was 18-14 overall.
