Week 2 of the 2016 college season was enormously more enjoyable for fans of OU football than the previous week. Without a doubt, the Sooner players had a much better feeling about it as well.

In reality, though, it’s difficult to decipher what was truly learned or gained from the 59-17 pounding Oklahoma expectedly put

About the only thing the Sooners failed to accomplish in their win over ULM was covering the spread. Their 42-point advantage fell four points short of the 46-points the home team needed to cover.

There were quite a few numbers that told the tale of this Oklahoma victory, and I’ve culled a dozen of the more meaningful ones below:

1Michiah Quick, a former wide receiver for the Sooners, saw his first game action as a converted defensive back.

2 – Backup OU quarterback Austin Kendall became the second true freshman in the Bob Stoops era to throw a touchdown pass. Kendall hit wide receiver A.D. Miller with a three-yard scoring pass in the third quarter, his first of two TD passes on the night.

4 – Freshman linebacker Caleb Kelly had his first collegiate action against the Warhawks of ULM, recording four tackles.

10 – Sooner tight end Mark Andrews has caught 24 career passes in two seasons at OU. Ten of those receptions have gone for touchdowns. He had one TD catch against Louisiana-Monroe.

12 – Twelve different receivers caught passes for the Sooners in Week 2.

35 – Consecutive games won by the Sooners since they have suffered back-to-back losses. The last time Bob Stoops lost consecutive games was in his first season at Oklahoma in 1999.

41 – The three touchdown passes by OU’s Baker Mayfield in the win over ULM gives him 41 as a Sooner. That places him fifth on the Oklahoma career list.

42 – The 42 points scored by the Sooners in the opening half against ULM was the most they have scored in the first half since 2009 in a game against Texas A&M.

62 – Redshirt sophomore Nick Basquine’s first catch as an Oklahoma wide receiver came in the second quarter Saturday night against ULM and went for 62 yards and a touchdown.

99 – Average number of seconds it took for each of Oklahoma’s six first-half touchdown drives against ULM.

117 – Rushing yards for Joe Mixon vs. Louisiana-Monroe. That is the third 100-yard rushing game he has had in two seasons at Oklahoma.

87,037 – The attendance at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Saturday night for Oklahoma’s 2016 home opener. That not only is the record for single-game attendance at GFOMS, it is the largest crowd to witness a sporting event in the state of Oklahoma.
