Report: Joe Mixon involved in off-campus altercation

The Oklahoma Sooners’ prized running back recruit and incoming freshman Joe Mixon seems to be in a bit of trouble with the law. Or at least, that’s what Twitter would lead you to believe.

According to numerous reports, the frosh tailback was involved in an altercation at a Norman restaurant early Friday morning.

More from OU Football

Yesterday was Mixon’s 18th birthday, so naturally it might make more sense for him to be out later than usual, but around 2:30 am, it’s reported Mixon was involved an altercation that left a woman hurt and possibly hospitalized.

Sooner Scoop was the first to confirm Mixon’s involvement in the incident.

No security tapes from the establishment have been released, but there are several sources stating Mixon assaulted the woman, including an employee of the restaurant telling Cowboys Ride For Free. However, others believe Mixon did not retaliate in any violent manner. No official statement has been given by the university other than an internal investigation is underway.

We’re not here to say whether he threw a punch or not, but from a reliable source, four police officers were looking for him at OU’s new athletic dorm, Headington Hall. They left the residence hall shortly after without Mixon in custody.

According to our source, the woman (presumably intoxicated) that was allegedly assaulted was following Mixon that night and may have provoked him to hit her. Authorities are looking to find Mixon, though, he has deleted his Twitter, which does not necessarily look good on him.

There are many reports, and we’ll update with official word from the program. For now, it appears police are looking for Mixon, but he has NOT been dismissed from the team or been arrested. Also, Jason Kersey of The Oklahoman has word from Mixon’s attorney.

It is a bad situation for a player who’s career hasn’t even started, especially for as much potential and praise as he’s been getting.
