Oklahoma landed a huge commitment Sunday morning. And when we say huge, we literally mean huge.
As first reported by RJ Young of Sooner Scoop, the Sooners received a verbal from Class of 2015 JUCO center Akolda Manyang of Indiana Hills Community College. Manyang is a 7’0″ center, listed at 220 pounds by Rivals. Manyang picked OU over Arizona State and Minnesota.
The Sooners may have one of the best post presences in college basketball if Manyang continues to develop his game. However, he has some high expectations to live up to being the cousin of former Oklahoma basketball standout Longar Longar.
Manyang is one of the top junior college centers in the country, and for Lon Kruger and his staff, they are hoping his shot-blocking ability and inside scoring can translate at the Division 1 level.
The Sooners have already brought in a few freshman they are hoping to fill the paint, but Manyang gives them added depth, and hopefully extra help to aid Oklahoma’s rise back to the top.
The Sooners finished second last season in the Big 12 Conference, and this year could be the same, if not better. Oklahoma brings in Houston transfer Taeshawn Thomas, who may have to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer eligibilty rules. If he doesn’t get his waiver, the 2015-16 season could be scary for everyone with Thomas and Manyang unleashed on the Big 12.
Once again this is a huge get for Oklahoma. Here are Manyang’s highlights from Indian Hills CC:
