Oklahoma, Washington scheduled for MGM Showcase

The 2014 men’s basketball is far from complete, however, one more match-up is known.

In addition to Creighton, the Sooners will face the Washington Huskies of the Pacific 12 Conference.

The two programs will meet in Las Vegas on December 20 in the MGM Showcase.

The news was announced late Sunday night. The 2014 MGM Showcase will feature not only the Sooners and Huskies, but the UNLV Rebels and Utah Utes will be the second game of the night.

The MGM Showcase benefits Coaches vs. Cancer, a program that gives a platform for coaches and players to fight cancer by creating awareness and participating in fundraising events.

This is another quality match-up for Oklahoma, and also a great cause.

The Sooners will hopefully have a few followers from Norman to join them during the winter holidays in Las Vegas. And while Washington finished with a 17-15 record this past year, they should be a good barometer of where Oklahoma stands early on in their 2014-15 campaign.

Oklahoma needs resume-building opponents, though, the Huskies will lose their leading scorer and leading rebounder this upcoming year. More than anything, the Sooners will need to be challenged before conference play. The Big 12 will be stacked yet again with Kansas, Texas, and Iowa State seriously contending for the Big 12’s top spot.

I think this goes without saying, but college basketball season can not get here soon enough.
