Patty Gasso receives third consecutive Big 12 Coach of the Year

We’re a few days from everyone’s favorite May softball tournament. The Oklahoma Sooners, a seventh seed in the NCAA Regionals, will host a field of four for a spot in the NCAA Super Regionals.

Coaching them through the weekend will be the 2014 Big 12 Coach of the Year, Patty Gasso.

For the third straight season, Gasso received the honor from the Big 12 Conference. It’s her sixth Big 12 Coach of the Year Award since 1996.

Gasso and the Sooners have been red-hot lately, and they will look to extend their success in to the postseason. The Sooners have won 45 games in the regular season and earned the outright Big 12 Conference Champions after sweeping the Oklahoma State Cowgirls over the weekend.

A few Gasso’s players received honors from the Big 12. The list is as follows:

All-Big 12 First Team

All-Big 12 Defensive Team

  • Brittany Williams, Sr., 1B
  • Georgia Casey, Jr., 2B
  • Shelby Pendley, Sr., 3B
  • Destinee Martinez, Sr., OF
  • Kelsey Stevens, So., P

Oklahoma will face Bryant University Friday night in Norman for their first game of the NCAA Norman Regional. Oklahoma will need three victories over the weekend to advance to the Super Regional.
