Over the weekend, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State met up for some Bedlam softball. To finish out Big 12 play, as well as the regular season, OU needed just one win to secure the outright Big 12 Championship.

The Sooners got two. In a Bedlam sweep, the Sooners stood at the top of Big 12 Softball alone once again with a 16-2 record in conference play.

Oklahoma traveled to Stillwater Saturday for the first of two meetings. OU looked like they might let the win slip away, however, the Sooners pulled through a 5-4 win.

Oklahoma State allowed all five of OU’s runs at the top of the second inning. The Cowgirls struggled to combat OU’s scoring parade, looking a bit sloppy early on in the ball game.

Javen Henson bunted up the middle allowing Whitney Ellis to score from third off of a fielder’s choice. Henson, though, was called safe at first.

Henson and Destinee Martinez would find home plate as well. Also, Georgia Casey drove in two more runs before Oklahoma State retired the side off the next two batters.

Oklahoma’s five run lead would carry in to the fifth before the Cowgirls went on a four-run burst. OU was able to hold on and earn the conference title as well as a win for Oklahoma pitcher Kelsey Stevens.

With the conference trophy in hand, the Sooners still had a series to sweep. The Sooners would earn their 45th victory of the season with an 11-3 victory that ended in five innings.

The star of Sunday’s game in Norman was senior Brittany Williams. On her senior day, Williams went yard with a three-run homer and was a perfect 4-4 at bat. Williams, also, batted in three more scores to give Oklahoma a huge advantage over their instate rival.

The Cowgirls could not match Oklahoma’s offensive explosion and fell to 26-28 to finish the year. Though, OU is just getting started.

Oklahoma will hopefully be able to ride their current hot streak in to the postseason with the NCAA Regionals this weekend. Oklahoma is fortunate to host, and will not have to leave the state of Oklahoma, or 405 area code for that matter, in any postseason games.

The action starts Friday, May 16, with the defending NCAA champion Oklahoma Sooners facing the Bryant University Bulldogs (32-20) at 7:30 pm CST. The game will be available on ESPN 3.
