The 2013 season for Blake Bell, along with the rest of the Sooners, was a roller coaster. We saw him come in relief for the injured Trevor Knight, set an OU passing record against Tulsa, defeat Notre Dame, a team that had Oklahoma’s number for decades.

Then we see him drop crucial games against Texas, and Baylor, only to come back to be the Hero of Bedlam in a thriller, worthy of the game’s moniker.

With his inconsistentcy at the quarterback position, and five weeks of practices prior to the Sugar Bowl, Trevor Knight was named the starter. Knight having his coming out party against the Crimson Tide and as a result, is a favorite for the QB position in 2014. Blake Bell was not featured at all in the Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama.

However, Blake Bell, wasn’t really known as a thrower prior to 2013. The Belldozer was a running package. And next year, the Belldozer will move to the tight end position.

Blake Bell, has always been athletic. The Belldozer package always was devastating to opposing defenses. Given his frame, 6’6″ and 252 lbs., he could excel at TE. This also opens the door for Coach Heupel to incorporate trick plays.

Depending how Bell develops over the spring at the position, time will tell how he will be in the coming season. The vibes from the coaching staff at this point, are positive.
