Eric Striker, Linebacker
2013 Stats: 49 Tackles, 3 Sacks, 1 forced fumble
Eric Striker, a sophomore linebacker out of Seffner, Florida, had one of the best years you could ask of a linebacker. He thrived under the direction of defensive coordinator Mike Stoops this past season. He doesn’t have the size as other line backers, but who needs size when you have the speed off the edge that Striker possesses.
He played his best game against the Alabama Crimson Tide, accumulating seven tackles during the game, as well as three sacks. On one of those sacks, he stripped the ball from AJ McCarron. It lead Geneo Grissom to add seven to the already impressive 21 points off turnovers that the defense was able to help the offense accumulate.
Observing him this season, you would have thought that Eric Striker was a seasoned veteran for the Sooners. Great news for the team is the fact he was only a sophomore.
He should have even greater production in the upcoming year under Mike Stoops. This top 20 defense, should be past the number ten spot by the end of the year next season. Eric Striker, will be a HUGE reason why.
He is undersized for the position he plays. It can potentially create match-up problems on blocks. A little increase in size may not hurt, but his greatest strength is his speed.
I don’t know that I would want to mess with that. Instead, I am opting that he continue to hit his gaps, to improve on evading blocks. He improves on that, he’ll be unbeatable, no matter what team he faces.
