OU Baseball: Sooners cap off sweep of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in, 11-0, shutout

Oklahoma opened its season with a loss to Seton Hall last Friday, but have not looked back since.

The Sooners hosted the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions Tuesday and Wednesday, and after going for 16 runs in their first meeting, Oklahoma shut out UAPB, 11-0, to end a five-game home stand.

Oklahoma wasted no time scoring, freshman Sheldon Neuse homered to left field with sophomores Craig Aikin and Hunter Haley on first and second.

Oklahoma added three more runs over the next three innings before freshman Niko Buentello sparked a five-run fifth inning with a homer that made it 7-0 Sooners.

Redshirt junior Taylor Alspaugh would score off a double from junior Mac James, who would later score off a throwing error.

The Oklahoma bats would cool down, only getting one hit in the last three innings for Oklahoma’s offense.

OU improved to 4-1 on the season, and sophomore Corey Copping picked up the win, allowing four hits and striking out two in four innings.

The 29th-ranked ball club will not return to Norman until March 4. During their time away, Oklahoma travels to Orlando for the UCF Tournament this weekend then the ASU Tournament in Surprise, AZ next week.

OU will face The Citadel Friday at 11 a.m., a Bulldog team with a 2-2 record after dropping games to the West Virginia Mountaineers and USC Upstate.
