True freshman Jordan Woodard is making a name for himself early. Already establishing himself as the Sooner’s starting point guard, the former Edmond Memorial standout earned Newcomer of the Week honors from the Big 12.
Woodard’s been a huge addition to Oklahoma’s backcourt this season, averaging 11.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 4.9 rebounds per contest.
This past week, the Big 12 recognized Woodard for a monster 24 point, 8 assist performance against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
Woodard truly earned almost every point in that game. Woodard was 17-22 from the free throw line, three-of-four from the field, and knocking done one three-point shot.
Woodard is the second Sooner to win the Newcomer of the Week award. Ryan Spangler has won it twice so far this season. Spangler earned the award the first week of the season and won it again last week.
The Sooners are back in action tomorrow night against the Texas-Arlington Mavericks at the Lloyd Noble Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 P.M. CST and can be seen on Fox Sports Southwest Plus.
