Barry Switzer poked some fun at the Iowa State Cyclones this week when he said that – since Iowa State can’t win on the road – he wanted to be the first to congratulate Bob Stoops on tying his record for most wins ever as an Oklahoma Sooners’ head coach.

That total is 157 wins.

With one more win – possibly against the Kansas State Wildcats this weekend – Bob Stoops will sit alone with more wins than Barry Switzer and Bud Wilkinson and could argue his case as being the best Sooners’ coach of all time. Of course, he has only one national title win compared to Switzer’s and Wilkinson’s three each, but Stoops’ career at OU isn’t over with yet.

And, while tying Switzer’s record, Coach Stoops showed nothing but grace when asked about tying the all-time wins record.

“I’ve done my best to ignore that or stay away from it,” Stoops said. “All I’ll do is compliment Coach Switzer. He was a special coach in his time. … He’s been a great friend to me, a great friend to everybody in this program. We’re fortunate he still comes around and sees us. He’ll always be one of the most special and one of the greatest coaches in all of college football.”

One has to wonder if Barry Switzer will be Barry Switzer and poke Kansas State with a stick this weekend by trying to be the first to congratulate Stoops on breaking his record.
