For most of her career at the Oklahoma Sooners, Sherri Coale has had the Sooners’ women’s basketball team poised as one of the top teams in the nation. She has posted a 381-179 record (.680) and has made it to the college basketball tournament every season since 1999-2000, her fourth year at the school. Along the way, she has won two Big 12 season championships and four Big 12 tournament championships.
However, over the past few years, OU has taken a back seat to the Baylor Bears – mostly because of Brittney Griner, a basketball player so fierce than some whispered she could make it in the NBA. Well, Griner has graduated and the Oklahoma Sooners women’s basketball are back on top – at least in the preseason Big 12 rankings, where the coaches picked the Sooners to win the conference.
Oklahoma received five first place votes and a total of 74 points while Baylor dropped to second with only three first place votes and 70 total points.
