Former Oklahoma Sooners running back Adrian Peterson’s 2-year old son died tonight after being taken off of life support. The child was taken to the hospital on Wednesday in Sioux Falls when he was found unresponsive. The only person at the house with the child with the boyfriend of the child’s mother.

Doctors at the hospital said that the injuries were consistent with abuse and law enforcement said that Joseph Patterson was arrested and charged with two felony accounts of aggravated battery of an infant and aggravated assault domestic. Those charges should change with the sad death of the young child.

These charges said that Patterson either intentionally or recklessly caused bleeding, swelling or damage to the child’s brain.

Adrian Peterson refused to speak about it to the press after his football practice with the Minnesota Vikings, although he said he plans to play on Sunday. Peterson said he is able to relieve a lot of stress through sports.

Many people went to Twitter to offer their support, condolences and prayers, including NBA star LeBron James.

Adrian Peterson gave his thanks to everyone for their support and called the NFL a fraternity of brothers that he is thankful to be part of.

As a father of a young child myself, this just tears my heart up. Stormin’ in Norman sends our prayers and thoughts to Adrian Peterson during this difficult time.
