The Red River Rivalry is often riddled with emotion from both sides; however, there are some key aspects that the Sooners will need to take advantage of in order to pull out a quality win at the Cotton Bowl.

Win the turnover battle

The Sooners will need to win the turnover battle in order to ensure a win at the Cotton Bowl. When Oklahoma has been +1 in turnover margin they are undefeated in the Red River Rivalry under Stoops; however, when they lose the turnover margin -1 they have only produced 1 win. Forcing turnovers will also be key in swinging the momentum in the way of the Sooners. Given that the current offense has  not consistently shown an ability to score alot of points the defense will need to force turnovers to give the Sooners good field position throughout the game. One more interesting fact that goes with this topic is that Blake Bell and Case McCoy are the only two quarterbacks in the FBS with more than 100 pass attempts and 0 interceptions thrown this year.

Run the ball effectively

This year much like last year Texas has had alot of trouble stopping the run; however, interim defensive coordinator Greg Robinson moved two bigger more middle linebacker like players to the middle linebacker position. This is expected to help stop the run, even though up til this point Texas defense has been a total mess they allowed 500 yards rushing to a BYU team earlier in the season. In order to put this game away Oklahoma will need to start running the ball early and continue to run the ball effectively throughout the game. If the running game turns out to be effective, then Blake Bell will be able to find more space for his receivers later in the game and perhaps be able to put more points up this game.
