Former Oklahoma Sooners running back Adrian Peterson is having personal problems right now as his 2-year old son is in critical condition. The boyfriend of the child’s mother has been arrested and charged with two felony accounts of aggravated battery of an infant and aggravated assault domestic.
Peterson missed Minnesota Vikings’ practice on Thursday but was back at practice on Friday, where he spoke to reporters and asked that everyone please honor his privacy in the case. His father, Nelson Peterson, also addressed the media and asked for prayers for his grandson and the family.
Peterson’s son was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday in Sioux City when the child was discovered unresponsive. When reaching the hospital, doctors found the child’s injuries were consistent with abuse. The only person at home with the child when the authorities arrived was Joseph Patterson, the boyfriend of the child’s mother.
Despite the horrible situation, Peterson said he will still play on Sunday, saying that he can relieve a lot of stress through sports. He also said that he felt the Lord could never give you more than you can handle and he appreciated everyone’s support, both the fans and his teammates.
Minnesota head coach Leslie Frazier said he will speak to Peterson more in the next 24 hours about what the team will expect from him as he goes through this troubling time.
